In-Demand Skills in Indonesia 2026: How to Prove Them

AI literacy, data analysis, cybersecurity, cloud and digital marketing top employer wish lists in Indonesia. What each means and how to show it on your CV.

Lists of 'skills employers want' are easy to find and hard to act on. Most of them agree on the same themes for Indonesia in 2026: working with AI tools, analysing data, security and cloud infrastructure, digital marketing, and a set of human skills such as critical thinking and adapting quickly. The harder question is what each one means for a real job, and how a recruiter can tell that you actually have it. This guide covers both.

AI literacy: using AI tools well, not building them

For most roles, 'AI skills' does not mean training models. It means knowing how to use tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to get real work done faster — drafting, summarising, analysing a spreadsheet, writing a first version of code — and knowing when the output is wrong. Show it with a concrete outcome: 'Cut weekly report preparation from 6 hours to 2 by using an AI assistant to draft summaries, with manual fact-checking'. Listing 'ChatGPT' under skills proves nothing; describing what it changed in your work does.

Data analysis

Data skills now appear in job descriptions far outside data teams: marketing, operations, finance and HR all expect people who can pull numbers and draw conclusions. The practical core is spreadsheets (pivot tables, lookups), SQL for querying a database, and one visualisation tool such as Looker Studio, Tableau or Power BI. On your CV, name the decision your analysis drove, not just the tool: 'Built a churn dashboard in Looker Studio that the retention team used to target 3 at-risk customer segments'.

Cybersecurity and cloud

As more Indonesian businesses move systems to the cloud and personal data rules tighten, demand has grown for people who can run cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and keep it secure. Certifications carry real weight here because they are hard to fake: an AWS or Google Cloud associate certification, or an entry-level security certification, tells a recruiter you have passed a standard exam. Pair them with a project you can describe — a deployment you set up, a vulnerability you fixed, a cost you cut.

Digital marketing

Performance marketing (paid ads on Meta, Google and TikTok), SEO, content and CRM remain some of the most-hired skills in Indonesia, because nearly every business sells online. Recruiters look for results with numbers attached: return on ad spend, cost per acquisition, organic traffic growth, conversion rate. If you have run campaigns, even small ones for your own project or a family business, write down the budget and the outcome.

The human skills: critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence

Every list includes soft skills, and every CV claims them, which is exactly why writing 'good communicator' or 'fast learner' does nothing. Prove them with situations instead: a problem you diagnosed that others had missed (critical thinking), a new tool or process you learned under a deadline (adaptability), a conflict you resolved or a team you kept together (emotional intelligence). These stories are also what interviewers ask for with behavioural questions, so writing them down helps twice.

Find your gaps and prove your skills with Apto

Knowing which skills are in demand only helps if you know which ones you are missing for the role you want. Apto's Belajar Skill hub scans your CV against your target role and maps the skills you already have and the gaps to close, with a learning roadmap and practice quizzes. When you are ready, you can take a Verified Skill test: pass it and the skill carries a Verified badge, with its level, in your Apto CV — evidence you earned, rather than another line in a skills list.
